Jacob W. Johnson was born in 1829, and died Feb. 16, 1911. Had he lived until May 21st next he would have been 82 years of age.

In 1853 Mr. Johnson left Michigan, moving to Floyd county, Iowa, and in 1865 moved to Hamilton county. He followed agricultural pursuits throughout his entire life. He purchased land just across the line in Webster county and lived there for about ten years, after which he crossed the boundary into Hamilton county, his home being in Webster township.

In the family were eleven children--Mrs. Ellen Alexander, Ashbury, Mrs. Louise Corbin, now deceased, Mrs. Susanna Royster, John P., Sarah, Emeline, Mrs. Stella Robbins. Elizie, Jacob, and Mary. He married Miss Barbara Baltimore, a native of Indiana, and in 1853 they left Michigan and moved to Floyd county. In 1865 they came to Hamilton county. Mr. Johnson found the opportunities he sought here and he made the best of these. The deceased possessed strong resolutions, reliability, perseverance and energy. He with his wife united with the Christian church in Homer many years ago. No one was more dearly beloved by his children and grandchildren than was he. Mr. Johnson's death was caused by a severe cold which settled on his lungs. Two doctors and a nurse were sent for, but in spite of all that loving hands could do, he sank rapidly and on Feb. 16th passed away, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was ready and willing and expressed a wish that he wanted to go home. Those who knew him best loved him most. In all life's relations he has guided his earthly walk by honorable and manly principles.

The family wish to thank the neighbors and friends for their kindness in the last sad hours.

Webster City Freeman, Tues., 3/7/1911
