OBITUARY:Webster City Freeman-Journal,1945.
"Services for Mrs. Fowler. Long Time Resident of this Community Died Tuesday Noon.
Funeral services for Mrs. John Fowler, 80, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church in this city preceded by a brief service at the Foster funeral home; the Rev. Harold Putney officiating. Burial in the Blairsburg cemetery.
Mrs. Fowler died Tuesday noon at the home of her son, Roy, four and one-half miles northeast of Blairsburg, where she had been the past two weeks. She had been in poor health about five weeks. Death was caused by heart trouble and senility.
Born On Farm
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel VonNieda, Sarah Melissa VonNieda was born Aug.15, 1865 on a farm in Jackson county. At the age of four she came with her parents to Hamilton county and the family located on a farm south of Webster City, later moving to a place northwest of Blairsburg.
In 1801, she was married to John Fowler of Manson and to this union three sons were born. Guy of Webster City, Roy of Blairsburg and Merle of Iowa City.
They farmed a time in Calhoun county, later moving to Hamilton county to a farm north of Blairsburg. In 1913 Mr. and Mrs. Fowler retired from farming and moved into Blairsburg, where they resided until Mr. Fowler died Dec. 13, 1935. The following year, Mrs. Fowler moved to Webster City to make her home in an apartment in the Burleson building.
Last of Nine
The last of nine children, Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Besides the three sons, she is survived by ten grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Congregational church. Always of a pleasant kindly nature, Mrs. Fowler made many friends in the various communities where she resided during her lifetime. Her home and family and her church provided the chief interests of her life and through her devotion to them she enjoyed many pleasant associations."
