WCHS Junior killed in Friday night accident

Family members, friends and classmates today are mourning the death of a Webster City High School Junior killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday evening in Webster County.

Tia Marie Lambert, 17, the daughter of Pastor Joe and Grace Lambert, of Stratford, was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle she was a passenger in was struck broadside on new Highway 20 near the Brushy Creek turn-off.

Lambert was a passenger in a 1996 Chevy Cavalier driven by Colleen Kennedy, 16, Webster City. Kennedy was apparently westbound on Highway 20, attempting to make a left turn onto P-73 when her vehicle was struck broadside by a 2002 Ford Ranger operated by Tracy Bailey, Cincinnati, Ohio, who was eastbound on Highway 20, according to the Iowa Highway Patrol.

Both vehicles were reported as a total loss. Patrol indicate that all persons involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Also, alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident. The accident remains under investigation by the patrol.

Kennedy remained hospitalized at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge this morning. Her condition was not available. Bailey and a passenger in his vehicle, Michael Arrendale, Canton, Ohio were also transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center where it is believed they have been released.

Funeral services for Miss Lambert are planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Webster City High School Auditorium with Rev. John Grebner and Bruce Benson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Stratford Lutheran Church.

Miss Lambert was born Aug. 28, 1985 in Ottumwa to Pastor Joe and Grace (Benson) Lambert. In addition to her parents, she is survived by: four brothers, Joe Lambert of Decorah, Abe Lambert of Lincoln, Neb., and Sam and Ben Lambert of Stratford; one sister, Tamara Patterson of Riverside; grandparents Elaine Benson of Northfield, Minn., and Joe and Wanda Lambert of Clear Lake; and several aunts and cousins.

A member of the WCHS Class of 2004, Miss Lambert was active in choir, track and the year book staff. During her sophomore year, she served as manager for the Cross Country team. Outside of school, she worked at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center and Family Pharmacy, both in Stratford.

Miss Lambert was a member of the Lutheran Church and her family stated that she loved spending time with friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts for a memorial to be established in her honor at a later date.

The Stark-Welin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
