Mildred Margaret Van Winkle passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1 at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames with a burial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City.

Mildred was born on October 1, 1913, the youngest of five children of Wichie G. and Margaret M. (Flesner) Meyer. She was born and raised on the family farm two miles east of Webster City, Iowa. After graduating from Webster City High School, Mildred attended Webster City Junior College and then worked as a stenographer at Farmer's COOP in Webster City. On September 3, 1937 she married Keith M. Van Winkle in Lancaster, Missouri. Mildred and Keith lived in Gilman and Grinnell before moving to Ames in 1943 where they raised their three children, Kerry, Judith and Eric.

Mildred was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her family and greatly enjoyed following all of their activities. Mildred had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She enjoyed playing cards - particularly bridge, playing golf, following professional golf, listening to music, working crossword puzzles and visiting with family and friends. Mildred was loved by her family and friends.

Mildred is survived by her husband Keith of Ames; two sons, Kerry and wife Marty of Roland and Eric of Shingle Springs, California; one daughter Judith of Riverside, California; six grandchildren Cassandra and Nicholas Handy of Riverside, California, George Van Winkle and his wife Amy of Fargo, North Dakota, Holyce Van Winkle of Story City, Kyle Van Winkle of Ames and Kristin Vinson and her husband Michael of Roland; and four great-grandchildren, Dana Vinson of Roland and Fallon, George Jr. and Ashley Van Winkle of Fargo, North Dakota. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Wichie G. and Margaret (Flesner) Meyer, her two brothers, Walter Meyer and Gerhardt Meyer and her two sisters, Pauline Meyer and Helen Snyder.

Visitation will be held at Adam's Funeral Home in Ames on Tuesday, May 31 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
