Ardell Dwight Nissen, 88, Webster City, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at the Southfield Wellness Community. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Pete Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Gunderson Funeral Home of Fort Dodge is in charge of arrangements. There will be a private burial in Graceland Cemetery.

Ardell was born on Aug 15, 1916 to Irvin and Minnie Kolb Nissen at Meservey, Iowa. In 1925, the family moved to Kamrar, Iowa. He attended Kamrar School, graduating in 1934.

Ardell married Evelyn Van Langen on July 20, 1936 at the Kamrar Presbyterian Church east of Kamrar. The couple lived in Kamrar and Webster City. In 1945, Ardell served with the U.S. Army and spent time in Germany guarding prisoners of war. In 1959, they moved to Davenport, Iowa where he was a precision machinist, retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1978. They returned to Webster City in 1987. They enjoyed 20 winters in Weslaco, Texas.

Ardell is survived by his wife, Evelyn, daughter, Verona Yates of Webster City, and daughter and son-in-law Miriam (Ken) Iossi, Acworth, GA.; brothers Emery (Carol) of Lake Villa, Ill., Ross (Dorothy) of Webster City; half-sister Betty Bashford of Kimberling City, MO., and half-brother, Irvin Jr., San Pedro, Calif.; five grandchildren, Rhonda (Dennis) Crane of West Des Moines, Mitch (Kelly) Yates of Webster FCity, Jim (Pam) Yates of Belton, Mo., Kim (Mike) Tataris of Flowery Branch, GA., Todd (Kath) Iossi of Mason City; along with five great-grandchildren, Logan and Carlee Yates, Webster City; and Alexis, Taylor and Kristina Tataris of Flowery Branch, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Arlene Mamminga, and stepbrother, Joe Carson.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 191. Memorials may be given to Asbury United Methodist Church or to a memorial of your choice.
