Lura McCoskey, 79, lifelong Blairsburg and Webster City resident, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001 at Metropolitan Medical Center in Des Moines. Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 at First Congregational UCC Church in Webster City.

Lura Mae Evans, daughter of Elias Evans and Mary Jaycox Evans, was born May 30, 1922 at Blairsburg. She graduated from Blairsburg High School in 1939. On Oct. 15, 1942 she married Warren McCoskey at her parent's home in Blairsburg. After their marriage, they farmed in the Blairsburg and Webster City areas until 1987, when they retired and moved to Webster City.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Van Langen and husband Orin of Humboldt; three sons, Leroy of Shenandoah, Larry and wife Cheryl, China; and Curt and wife Lorraine, Webster City; nine grandchildren, Nick, David and Emily Van Langen; Sarah Ramsland, Karen Miller and Joanna McCoskey; Lisa Swanson, Kristy Fortune and Ryan McCoskey, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, in 1998, her parents, seven brothers and one sister.

She was an active member of the Congregational Church in Webster City and a volunteer at Crestview Manor for over 30 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to UCC Memorial Fund, Kendall Young Library or the Parkinson's Research Foundation.
