Walter Greenley, 86, Webster City, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 at Trinity Regional Hospital. Burial of cremains were held Monday in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #191. A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Ronald McKinney of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, Mark and wife Jennifer Epley, Richmond, Va., and Aaron McKinney, Jacksonville, Fla.; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Epley. He is preceded in death by his wife Jennie; his parents; three brothers Cecil, Melvin and Frank, and three sisters Viola Butler, Blanche Hatt and Nova Fisher.

Walter Enos Greenley, son of Joseph and Pearl Urich Greenley was born Feb. 4, 1915 in Webster City. At the age of one, he moved to LeMars, later returning to Webster City in 1926. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1933. And then attended Webster City Junior College and later Hemphill Diesel School in Chicago. He volunteered during WWII, serving in the American and Asiatic Pacific Theaters as an aviation medalsmith in the Naval Air Corps. He worked as an auto body repairman and auto mechanic for many years, and then entered the construction trades. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 12 years as carpenter in the Webster City School Maintenance. He married Jennie Koop on Oct. 10, 1935 and she died Nov. 18, 1997.

Walter was an avid hunter and outdoors man. He built beautiful hardwood furniture and also enjoyed refinishing furniture with his wife.

He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church, American Legion Post #191, a charter member of the Boone Valley Izaak Walton Club and a life member of the National Rifle Association.
