Gerald M. Twedt, 86, of Ellsworth, died of cancer Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with Rev. Michael Herschberger to officiate. Burial will follow at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth. Friends may visit Friday at the church until service time. A memorial fund has been established for the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Gerald M. Twedt was born Oct. 18, 1915 near Ellsworth, to Gilbert and Sadie (Thompson) Twedt. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church near Radcliffe. Gerald farmed near Ellsworth until his retirement. Throughout the years, he was involved in the Ellsworth community. He served on a variety of Boards of Directors, including the Ellsworth-Williams Co-op, the Ellsworth Telephone Association, the Ellsworth Community Club, the Ellsworth Turkey Producers and the Homewood Cemetery Association. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Gerald was a great supporter of young people and enjoyed attending school events.

Gerald is survived by two sisters, Beryle Thoreson of Ellsworth and Betty McClain of Story City; a brother Don Twedt and wife, Jeanne of Atteboro Falls, Massachusetts; a number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a great-great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Ennis McClain and Curtis Thoreson.
