Fritz Weir, 64, Webster City, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at the First Congregational Church with Rev. James Buffington officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church after 9 a.m. Saturday.

Kenneth Fritz Weir, son of John and Ruth Holmes Weir, was born April 22, 1937 at Dows. He graduated from Clarion High School in 1954. He worked for Hagie Manufacturing, Clarion. On Jan. 11, 1958 he married Karen Nelson at Clarion. The couple lived at Clarion and in 1959 moved to Webster City. He had been employed at People's Natural Gas for 40 years, retiring in March of 1999. After retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling and wintering at Yuma, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Kosh Meinders of Yuma, Kathy and David Howard of Estherville, Kristi and Chris Schmidt of Norwalk; grandchildren, Jaymie and Jacob Meinders of Yuma, Nicole, Amy and Rebecca Howard of Estherville; Mikayla and Carter Schmidt of Norwalk; sister, Donna Gates of Webster City; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Weir was a member of the First Congregational Church, enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and hunting, was an avid follower of football and boxing. Along with Kenneth Quick, he invented the Ventsentry (a carbon monoxide alarm). The patent was later sold.
