Claire Pates, 101, Webster City, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 at Crestview Manor. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home with Pastor Suzie Moore officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. at the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the services Thursday at the funeral home.

Claire Griswell, daughter of Henry and Leta Skeeles Griswell, was born January 15, 1900 at Eddyville. On April 5, 1923 she married Carl Arthur Pates at Webster City. The couple resided at Webster City. Mr. Pates, a longtime Webster City pharmacist, died January 26, 1962.

Mrs. Pates is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Jack Read, Stanhope; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Don and Peg Pates of Rupert, Idaho; grandchildren, David and Jacque Read of Stanhope, Jill and Bill Talbot of Nevada, Carla and Bob Teitt of Salt Lake City, Utah, Karen and Laran Turner of Rupert, Colleen and Jerry Winters of Atlanta, Texas; eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Criswell, and a sister-in-law, Elaine Pates.

She had been a member of Stanhope Senior Citizen's Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Stanhope Serenaders. She also enjoyed the ability to play the violin.

[there are some typos regarding her maiden name so I did a little searching - her parents, Henry & Letta Skeeles Criswell - are buried at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa - so Criswell is the correct spelling of her maiden name]
