James "Stan" Burton, 73, Williams, died Friday, August 31, 2001 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg with Rev. Bill Keller officiating. Burial was in the Williams Cemetery in Williams. Surls Funeral Home in Williams was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.

James Stanley Burton, son of Harold and Gertrude Stout Burton, was born July 7, 1928 in Jacksonville, Mo. He was a 1946 graduate of Williams High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949-1953. He married Juanita Brandt on July 25, 1955. Mr. Burton was a farmer.

He attended Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg and was a past member of the Williams Lions Club, Williams American Legion Post #633, National Tractor Pullers Assoc., Tech Safety Director. He helped establish the Iowa Tractor Pullers Association. This was his 50th year of pulling.

He is survived by a son, Michel of Williams; two daughters, Dawn Burton, Omaha, Ne., and Lilah Joss, Des Moines; 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; three brothers, Jerry Burton of Miami Springs, Fla., Floyd Burton of Iowa Falls; Harold Burton of St. John, Fla.; and a special friend, Velma Merritt of Roland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
