Mary Hammer, 74, Rancho Mirage, a former Webster City resident, died Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at the Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Rancho Mirage. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City, with Rev. John Flaherty, officiant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, followed by a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Sunday and prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Mary Elaine Hammer, daughter of William and Genevieve McGuire Hammer, was born Feb. 4, 1927 in Des Moines. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1945 and attended the University of Montana at Missoula. She was employed by Hilton Hotels and Dean Whitter.

Mrs. Hammer is survived by a brother, Joe W. Hammer of Palm Springs, Calif., 10 nieces and nephews, Margaret (Mrs. Roger) Wangler, Palm Desert, Calif., Dean Gillette of Miles City, Mt., Dr. Nancy (Mrs. John) Creek of Indian Wells, Calif., Mark Gillette, Timothy Gillette, both of Webster City; Cardinal (Mrs. Marion) Ambrose of Nashville, Tenn., Mary (Mrs. Kurt) Berglund, Mound, Minn., W.J. Hammer of Indian Wells; Cynthia Hammer, Palm Springs and Marianne Hammer of San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, Nancy Gillette, and a nephew, Joseph J. Hammer.
