John Wepel, 95, Webster City, died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Laird officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday.

John Robert Wepel, son of Heiko and Tillie Huisinga Wepel, was born Feb. 21, 1907 on a farm southeast of Webster City. He attended the Coal rurual school in that area. On October 1, 1933, he married Lillie Catherine Arrasmith at the Church of Christ in Webster City. The couple farmed at Woolstock, Kamrar, Ellsworth and Webster City. They moved to Webster City in 1979. He was a longtime employee of the Wehrheim Sale Barn and also worked for Johnson Auction and Clint Peterson Auctioning.

Mr. Wepel is survived by his wife, Lillie; sons and daughters-in-law, Clair and Eva Wepel; Marion and Stella Wepel, all of Ankeny; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Clair Lavern Caquelin Jr., and Lori Lynn Wepel Van Ommeren; sisters, Gladys Flanagan, Gertrude Nelson, Helena Hanson; brothers, Earnest, George, Albert and Robert Wepel.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.
