Memorial Services of Iowa, Ankeny, Iowa, September 2021

Clair LaVerne Wepel, 86, of Eagle Grove, formerly of Ankeny, passed away peacefully at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge on September 16, 2021.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). Funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2021, also at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Clair was born March 10, 1935 in Webster City, IA to John R and Lillie (Arrasmith) Wepel. He served a few years in the National Guard, after that he spent many years as a truck driver and retired from the Ankeny Streets Department, where he worked for 25 years.

Clair was united in marriage to Margaret (Simpson) Hanus and the couple later divorced. He was then united in marriage to Eva (Radabaugh) Shillinglaw.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending races at Iowa Speedway, camping, and many years of wintering in Texas.

Clair is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eva in 2008; sons, Clair Jr. and Randy; daughters, Karen and Lori; as well as special friend, Phyllis Zeimet in 2019.

Left to cherish Clair’s memory are his son, Bill (Kim) Caquelin; daughter, Connie Binder; brother, Marion (Stella) Wepel; special grandson, Stephen Wepel; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as several other loving relatives who will deeply miss his presence in their lives.
