W.C. trucker killed today

A Webster City truck driver, John Russell Caquelin, 41, died early this morning following a one-vehicle crash one-half mile north of U.S. Highway 20 on the Vincent blacktop. He was currently employed by the Brazos Truck Line at their Fort Dodge terminal.

Webster County Sheriff Ray McCoy said this morning that the semi operated by Caquelin was northbound at the time of the mishap.

Sheriff McCoy said that the truck, which was loaded with gypsum board, crossed the centerline and crashed into the ditch on the west side of the road. The mishap occurred about 1:30 a.m.

Caquelin, who was thrown partially through the windshield, was dead on arrival at Trinity East hospital in Fort Dodge.

The accident was investigated by the Webster county sheriff's department and Iowa Highway Patrolman Garrett Welland.

Funeral services for John Russell Caquelin, 41, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Ivan Hoffman and the Rev. S.W. Cunningham officiating. Burial will be made at the French cemetery near Woolstock. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 191.

John Russell Caquelin, son of Henry and Cecile Marie Caquelin, was born Feb. 29, 1932 at Woolstock, where he was reared and educated. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and had recently retired after 21 years of service in the Army and the Air Force.

He was married Dec. 30, 1959 to Margaret Simpson.

Surviving are six children: Mrs. Doug (Kathy) Pippin, Webster City, Mrs. Robert (Pam) Moore, Vacaville, Calif.; Clair Caquelin, Webster City, Bill Caquelin, Robert Caquelin and Rodger Caquelin, all of Huntington Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters, Lowell Caquelin, Webster City, Maynard and Donald Caquelin of Woolstock, Mrs. Lynn (Shirley) Sorenson, Goldfield, Mrs. Melvin (JoAnn) Biggs, Webster City and Mrs. Ivan (Phyllis) Hoffman of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
