John M. Smith, 76, Webster City, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 at Southfield Wellness Community. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Mr. Smith was cremated. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.

John Martin Smith, son of Virgil and Johannah Johnson Smith, was born June 18, 1924 at Webster City. He graduated from Webster City High. He married Dorothy Keller in Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. He had been employed by Keller Construction in general masonry work and in patient care at the Hamilton County Home. He retired in 1982. Mrs. Smith died Dec. 21, 1957. He resided at Southfield for 21 months.

He is survived by son, Rocky Smith of Lilburn, Ga., daughter and son-in-law Roxie and Jerry Burge, Utica, S.D., several grandchildren; brothers, Donald Smith of Kewaunee, Wis., Richard Bruce Smith, Webster City; sisters, Margaret Craig of Rayville, Mo., Mary Willson of Fort Dodge, Shirley Algoe and Barbara Hadley, both of Webster City; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ollie Smith.
