Roy Chalfant, 80, Webster City, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Carter officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. Friday and at the church prior to the service on Saturday.

Roy Leslie Chalfant, son of Walter and Sarah Gerber Chalfant, was born Oct. 30, 1920 on a farm west of Kamrar. He received his education from Webster City and Stanhope schools. He graduated from Lincoln High in Webster City in 1938. He farmed in the Webster City area. On April 26, 1941 he married Viola Thompson at Webster City. The couple farmed northwest of Webster City and moved to Webster City in 1971. He retired in 1975 and continued to farm part time. He resided at Southfield for a short time and was at Crestview Manor for 3 years.

He is survived by his wife, Viola; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary Chalfant of Webster City, daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Robert Moulton of Hartford, Elaine and Frank Messerly of Fort Dodge, Bethene and Wes Nelson of Marion; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles, Kenmore and James Chalfant; sister, Violet Goehring.

He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, a former director of the Highview Cooperative and a former member of the Hamilton County Fair Board.
