Betty Lee Shearer, 71, Williams died Friday, January 19, 2001 at Crestview Manor in Webster City. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Williams with Pastor Tom Hunt officiating. A private burial was held in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

Betty Lee McEntaffer, daughter of Vera and Thelma Edwards McEntaffer, was born February 25, 1929 at Mason City. She received her education in Boone, IA. On April 9, 1949, she married Edward S. Shearer in Leavenworth, Ks. She was a dance instructor in Boone and later in her home in Jewell for over 25 years. She worked for the Hamilton County Public Hospital, in the insurance division. She and her husband were co-owner's of the South Hamilton Record News in Jewell for many years. She also worked as a seamstress in Jewell for many years. In 1996, she retired and moved to Williams.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Richard Ely of Williams, three grandsons, Brian and wife Casey Kahl of Story City, Randy Kahl of Webster City and Tom Swenson of St. Louis, Mo., granddaughter, Shelly Swenson of Portsmouth, Va., brother and sister-in-law, John and Vicki McEntaffer, Fort Myers, Fl.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, E. Stephen Shearer. She was a former member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell.

[I did some checking and her father's name was Harold Vere McEntaffer - her parents are buried at Linwood Cemetery, Boone, Iowa]
