Bradley James Thompson, 73, of Ames died March 12, 2020 at his home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames. Burial will follow in the Roland Cemetery.

Brad was born on March 24, 1946 in Story City, Iowa to B. James and Joyce H. (Chelsvig) Thompson. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and worked in sales in the medical field. Brad was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a very good baseball player in high school and college before throwing his arm out. He loved to golf, bowl and go to family functions. Brad was a pilot for many years and was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, the American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his son, Matt (Catherine) Thompson of Green Bay, WI; four grandchildren, Alex, Erik, Johanna and Samantha; a brother, Bruce (Jan) of Ellsworth; a sister, JoLayne (Ian) Weber of Broken Arrow, OK and a sister-in-law, Gayla Thompson of Randall.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bryan Thompson.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames was entrusted with arrangements.
