Robert Durwood Peterson, 91, of rural Jewell died March 7, 2020 at his home. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 13 at 11 am at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Robert was born on November 16, 1928 in Jewell, Iowa to Anton and Ida (Sunsbo) Peterson. He married Patricia Thomason on June 13, 1954.

He farmed west of Jewell for his entire life. Robert was a veteran of the US Army and a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. He had been a director of Central Iowa Coop and the Cooperative Telephone Exchange. Robert was active in Gideon's International and taught Sunday school at Bethesda for many years. He enjoyed working on the farm with his family, and his faith was very important to him.

Robert is survived by his wife Pat of Jewell; two sons, Travis (Judy) of Jewell and Rodney of Fort Dodge; two daughters, Robin (Peder) Sandager of Corpus Christi, TX and Kathy (Dennis) of Humboldt, IA; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Sterling Peterson and Stanley (Marlys) Peterson; a sister, Ina Sabby; sisters-in-law, Ruth and June Peterson.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin (Madeline), Arling and Leslie; sister, Naomi (Lloyd) Sabby; brother-in-law, Lee Sabby and sister-in-law, Bette Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's International.

Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell is entrusted with arrangements.
