Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Wednesday, October 29, 1947

Mrs. A.J. [Andrew Jasper] Kahl, 87, died at 4:45 a.m. today at her home, 933 Elm street. She had been bedfast for the past six weeks.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church Friday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. J.A. Farnham officiating and with McCauley-Chapman funeral home in charge.

Born in Ontario, Canada, Mrs. Kahl came to the United States with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Ley, when she was [unreadable - could be 14 or 19] years old. The family settled on a farm near Woolstock.

She was married Oct. 3, 1883, to A.J. Kahl and the couple began farming 12 miles northeast of Webster City. In 1908 they moved to a small acreage near this city and in 1910 they moved into Webster City to their home at 933 Elm street.

Mrs. Kahl was preceded in death by her husband, who died Feb. 3, 1937. She was also preceded in death by one son and two grandchildren. She is survived by five children: David Kahl of Fosston, Minn.; Mrs. Robert White of Alberta, Canada; Charles Kahl of North Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs. Clarence Stone and Miss Bertha Kahl, both of this city.

Other survivors include eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In 1928, Mrs. Kahl affiliated with the Methodist church in this city and was very active in church work as long as her health permitted.
