Ethel Linnevold Hoff, 94, Edina, Minn., died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006 at Hughes Health and Rehabilitation Center in West Hartford, Conn., after a short illness. Born in Decorah, IA on Feb. 11, 1912 Ethel graduated from Decorah High School in 1929 where she was active in sports and loved to dance. After teaching in a one-room school for a time, she was employed by the Bell Telephone Co., for many years. She was chief operator in Webster City, shepherding that office's move to the dial system in the late 1950's. She hired and supervised "her girls" with a firm and kind hand.
Ethel was predeceased by husband John J. Hoff, a sister, Nora, and brothers Robert and Lester. She leaves a son, James Hoff and his wife, Jean of Oregon, Ill., a daughter Ginger Allen Stolzenberg and her husband Frank of Bloomfield, Conn., five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a niece Carol Durbala. A private family memorial will be held with internment in St. Benedict's Cemetery, Decorah. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. The family especially wishes to thank the staff at Hughes for their compassionate care and kindness during Ethel's residence there.
