Thomsen

Jurgen Hinrich Thomsen passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl E. Witt, near Jeffers, Minn., on the 21st day of January, 1916, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 2 days. He was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, Oct. 19, 1829, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, in which he was a firm believer until his death. He was married to Metta Christine Siemsen April 12, 1857. To this union four children were born - two sons and two daughters. The oldest son died at the age of seven years. They emigrated to this country in 1872 and located in Bryant, Clinton county, Iowa, where they remained until 1878, when they moved to Hamilton county, where they lived on their farm southeast of Stratford for sixteen years. Then they moved to Winnebago county and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Carl E. Witt, for a number of years. His wife preceded him to the great beyond, passing away Nov. 19, 1906. The deceased leaves to mourn his death one son and two daughters, Mrs. Paul Sonksen of Stratford, Iowa, Mrs. Carl E. Witt of Jeffers, Minn., and Peter W. Thomsen of Springfield, Mo., 17 grand children, five great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister in Germany, other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held last Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sonksen, conducted by Rev. C.A. Callerstrom, pastor of the Swedish Lutheran church, taking for his text Job 5 1-15. Interment was made in the South Marion cemetery.
