OBITUARY

Mrs. J.W. Swedlund

After an illness of but a little more than a week, Mrs. J.W. Swedlund passed away at the family home in the north edge of Stratford Saturday morning at about 9 o'clock. She had been seriously ill and had suffered much pain during her last illness and the news of her passing came as a sudden and real blow to her friends in this community.

Emma Louisa Sanderson was born in Galesburg, Illinois, September 8, 1859, and died June 30, 1928 at the age of 69 years, 9 months, 21 days.

In 1864 she, with her parents, moved to the South Marion community and there she grew to womanhood. At the age of sixteen she gave her heart to God and has ever since been a faithful member of the Methodist church in South Marion and a true follower of Jesus Christ.

On December 18, 1879, she was united in marriage to John Wesley Swedlund and to this union was born six children, three sons and three daughters. Two sons and one daughter have preceded her to the land beyond.

Those left to mourn are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. F.T. Carlson of this community, and Mrs. James Ericson of Boone, and one son, Earl Swedlund of Boone. One sister, Mrs. J.A. Axelson, of Red Oak, five grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends also mourn her death.

It can truly be said of the deceased that she was a devoted Christian wife and mother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. To those who were sick or in need she was always ready to give assistance as far as her health and strength permitted.

Mrs. J.A. Axelson, of Red Oak; Mrs. Hannah Fallein, and Mrs. E.N. Teander, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Esther Peterson of Slater, were among those from out of town who attended the funeral services Monday.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home at 1:30 o'clock and from the South Marion Methodist Church at 2:00 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. K.A. Stromberg, pastor of the church, assisted by G.H. Dick, of Stanhope, Rev. G.A. Stromberg of Mount Vernon, N.Y. and Rev. William Bottom. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette composed of Miss Minnie Williams, Mrs. L.M. Peterson, A.T. Johnson and Rev. William Bottom. Interment took place in the South Marion Cemetery.

[not positive if the correct spelling of her daughter's married name is Erickson or Ericson]
