Obituary

Swenson

Mrs. Charlotte Swenson died very suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Erickson east of Stratford, Wednesday evening of last week at the ripe old age of 86 years, 1 week and 2 days, the cause of her death being due to old age.

Mrs. Swanson was born in Peland [Pelarne] socken, Kalmar's Lan, Smaland, Sweden, November 22, 1817. She was married in Sweden and the fruits of their union were nine children - three girls and six boys, two boys having died while quite young. Her husband died in Sweden. She and her children came to America in 1868 and afterwards settled in Iowa, where they have resided ever since. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the residence conducted by Rev. A.P. Martin and the remains were laid to rest in the Olson cemetery. A large concourse of friends were present to attend the last sad rites of the deceased and three daughters and four sons, besides a number of relatives and friends are left to mourn her sudden departure.

Charlotta Jonsdotter was born Nov. 21, 1817 in Pelarne, Kalmar, Sweden, the daughter of Jonas Svensson and Stina Brita Jacobsdotter. She was baptized in the parish church on Nov. 23, 1817. Her husband, Sven Peter Johansson (born Sept. 20, 1817 in Tuna, Kalmar, Sweden) died on Oct. 15, 1866 in Vena, Kalmar, Sweden. They had nine children together. Following his death, she with many of her children emigrated to America in 1868. The children are as follows:
