Obituary

Sonkson

Sievert Sonkson was born in West Bordelum, Germany, April 1st, 1827. He was the youngest of a family of four children - two boys and two girls. His two sisters died at an old age and his brother still lives in Germany.

At the age of 16 years he was confirmed in the Lutheran church, Bordelum, Germany, and since then has been a faithful believer in the Lutheran doctrine. Between 1848-50 he served in the war between Denmark and Schleiswig Holstein. Only a few of those who served in that war are still alive. June 27, 1855 he was married to Engebor Caspersen. Three children were born to them, two having died in early childhood.

He immigrated to America in 1873 and settled in Clinton county, Iowa, where he lived for two years, when he moved to Hamilton county, where he resided until his death which occurred at two o'clock, Wednesday, July 8th, 1903 at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 7 days, after an illness of about 18 months. He was one of the early settlers of Hamilton cunty and has been a loyal citizen, a good and honest neighbor, a kind and loving husband, and a faithful and good father.

His son, Paul and family have been of much aid and comfort to him in times of need. Their kindness has been very much appreciated and his sincere desire and delight while sick was that his relatives should be near him. His thoughtfulness was shown even to the very last by this expression, "Take care of mother."

Those who mourn his loss are his wife, a son and his wife, four grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
