Wallace "Wally" Britson, 63, Webster City, a longtime local businessman, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 1, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. Roy Miltner and Rev. John Grebner officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Graveside flag-folding will be conducted by American Legion Post 191 of Webster City. Visitation at the Foster Funeral Home is after 5 p.m. today until 9:30 a.m. Friday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Wallace Eugene Britson, son of Orvie and Hattie (Hinderaker) Britson, was born Feb. 26, 1927 on a farm near Radcliffe. He attended Radcliffe schools, and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1944. He served with the U.S. Army from April 1945 to December 1946 in Japan. He married Anna "Peggy" Blackwood on Dec. 28, 1948 in Huxley. The couple resided in Ames, while Mr. Britson attended Iowa State University. He graduated from ISU in 1949.

He was then employed by Swift and Company. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1949 until 1952. After his discharge, he was employed by the Farmers Home Administration in Minnesota for five years. The couple later moved to Fort Dodge, where Mr. Britson was employed as assistant credit manager for Quaker Oats. In February 1957, he and his brother, Everett, started Britson Distributing in Webster City, and in 1965, Wallace Britson became sole owner of the company. The business was sold in September 1990, and Mr. Britson remained as a consultant. He was also the recipient of a heart transplant in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, Webster City; a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Bill) Miles, Omaha, Neb.; four sons, Bruce Britson, Lewisville, Texas; Wesley Britson, Norman, Oklahoma; Stanley Britson, Merrill, Wis.; and Calvin Britson, Pearland, Texas; 15 grandchildren, three brothes, Allan Britson and Ward Britson, both of Radcliffe, and Everett Britson, Atlantic; and a sister, Louella Lynch, Oak Lawn, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Mr. Britson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City, was a former board member of the Webster City Country Club, and was a member of American Legion Post 191 of Webster City.
