Answers Last Roll Call

Lars Frederick Peterson, a veteran of the civil war and a respected pioneer settler of this community, passed away at his home east of Stratford August 23, 1911, after an illness of about ten days. Deceased was born in Östergötland, Sweden, October 28, 1833, and emigrated to America in 1854. He served as a soldier in the civil war, serving in the 57th Illinois infantry until he was wounded in the battle of Shiloh. In 1866 he settled on a farm in Boone county and the same year he was united in marriage to Anna Charlotte Carlson. In 1888 he moved to his farm near Stratford, where he resided until his death. At the time of his death he was 77 years, 9 months and 26 days of age. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, one son, four grand-children, numerous relatives and many friends.

The funeral was held at the residence Friday afternoon and was attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives, who had gathered to pay their last respects to the departed one. Rev. Oster of the Baptist church conducted the services and paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. After those present had been permitted to take a farewell look at the departed friend the sad cortege wended its way to the South Marion cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest.
