OBITUARY

Mrs. Fred Peterson

From the Stratford and Boone communities came many Sunday, July 27, to pay their last respects to the memory of the late Mrs. Fred Peterson, for whom funeral services were conducted at the Swedish Mission church with the pastor, the Rev. I. Halleen, in charge. He was assisted by the Rev. Warner Johnson, of Austin, Minn., a relative of the deceased by marriage. Rev. Johnson spoke of the inestimable value of a Christian and godly mother to the house as well as the community and although their praises may be unsung and their lives unknown to the world at large, yet their influence for good is of more value than money or fame. And it was to such a mother we are paying our last tribute. Rev. Halleen spoke a few words of appreciation of Mrs. Peterson's faithful and consistent life as a member of the church. And she will be missed, especially at the weekly prayer meeting. A quartet sang "The City Four Square," The Blessed Lights of Home" and a Swedish song. The quartet was composed of Misses Anna Nordberg, Judith Josephson, Messrs Malcom Nelson and Benjamin Josephson, with Miss Ruth Hanson playing the accompaniments. The following served as casket bearers: Earl Johnson, LeRoy Jacobson, Albin Anderson, Harold Anderson, John Davis and Gust Tigerstrom. Those who cared for the many tributes of flowers were Mrs. Malcom Nelson, Misses Eleanor Nelson and Frances Gustafson. After the last rites at the church the funeral cortege wended its way to the South Marion cemetery where the deceased was laid to her final resting place beside her husband. At the cemetery the Rev. A.R. Sandberg, pastor of the South Marion M.E. church, spoke a few words of consolation and offered prayer.

Hulda Peterson (nee Anderson) was born in Östergötland, Horn parish, Sweden, August 8, 1862 and entered peacefully into rest Thursday, July 24, 1930 at the age of 67 years, 11 months, 16 days. When but a little girl she emigrated in company with her parents to America and settled in Kankakee county, Ill., in June, 1869. The family moved to Iowa in 1873 and settled in Boone county. Here she grew to womanhood and in March, 1881, she was united in marriage to Fred Peterson. To this union were born ten children. Two of them, Minnie and Rev. Arthur, have preceded her to that better land, also her husband, who entered into rest Sept. 20, 1922. When she was still a young girl she was converted and joined the Swedish Mission church of Boone. In 1901, she united with the South Marion M.E. church where she held her membership until 1920, when having moved back to Boone, she again united with the Swedish Mission church. Though of a retiring and quiet disposition, she loved her Lord and always sought to prove her faith by living according to His teachings. She was a loving mother who held the soul as well as the bodily welfare of her children at heart. She leaves to mourn her sudden departure, eight children: Miss Mabel, Joel and Fabian Peterson, all of Stratford; Mrs. Sexton Stenmark of Litchfield, Minn.; Clarence Peterson, of Butterfield, Minn.; Mrs. Arvid Carlson and Mrs. Frank Johnson, of Boone; Rev. Elmer Peterson, of Polk, Neb.; eight grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, three daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, and a large number of other relatives and friends.

Card of Thanks
We wish to thank our neighbors and friends, Rev. Halleen, the pianist and singers for their kindness and for the floral offerings sent us in our recent bereavement. The Children.
