FRED PETERSON DIES IN BOONE AFTER LEG IS CUT OFF TWO TIMES

Fred Peterson, 327 Monona street, Boone, a former resident of this place, last Friday submitted to the amputation of his right leg.

The amputation of the leg was made necessary because of gangrene which had set in and which had become so serious that the amputation of the leg was necessary in an effort to save the patient's life. The leg was first amputated at the knee in the hopes that this would stop the infection but later an amputation was made near the hip. Just what caused the gangrene is now known. A few weeks ago Mr. Peterson suffered considerably with an ingrown toe nail but this apparently healed and at this time it has not been determined whether that injury could have caused the infection.

Tuesday Mr. Peterson's condition became critical and on Wednesday at about 11 o'clock he passed away.

OBITUARY
Peterson

Fred Peterson was born in Hultestad, Oland Sweden, May 23, 1850, and after an illness of three weeks, passed away at the Eleanor Moore hospital in Boone, Sept. 20, 1922, at the age of 72 years, 4 months, 28 days.

Deceased came to this country in 1868 and located in Illinois. In 1880 he came to Iowa and made his home here until his death. In 1881 he was united in marriage to Huldah Anderson and to the union ten children were born. Two of them preceded him in death, namely: Minnie, who died in childhood and Rev. Arthur, who died during the flu epidemic of 1918.

He was converted in 1876 at Momence, Ills., and joined the Methodist church keeping his connection until he moved to this state. In 1901 he united with the M.E. church of South Marion and was for several years one of its trustees taking interest in the work. He retained his membership in that church until 1920 when on his removal to Boone to live he united with the Swedish Mission church.

Those left to mourn his departure: his widow; four daughters: Mrs. Sexton Stenmark of Litchfield, Minn., Mrs. Arvid Carlson, and Misses Mable and Hortense Peterson, all of Boone; four sons: Clarence, Fabian and Joel of Stratford and Rev. Elmer Peterson of Burlington. He also leaves to mourn his passing, one daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, three grandchildren and a host of close friends and neighbors.

Deceased was a quiet and unassuming man, generous to a fault and always pleasant to everyone. His passing marks the close of a busy life and a well spent one. The large offering of floral decorations from friends and relatives testified to his worth in this community.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Boone at 1:30 p.m. and at the South Marion church at 3 p.m., conducted by Rev. Irvin Hallen of Boone and Rev. A.W. Carlson of the South Marion church. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion cemetery.

Card of Thanks.
We wish to thank our neighbors and friends for their kindness and for the floral offerings sent us in our recent bereavement. MRS. FRED PETERSON AND FAMILY.
