Former Stratford Girl Passes Away

Miss Florence Olson died at the hospital in Boone Friday, death being caused by pneumonia following an attack of influenza. The announcement of her death here caused a pall of saddness to fall over the community for here she was born and grew to young womanhood, and here she had friends by the score who were her playmates not many years ago.

A few years ago she entered the hospital in Boone and was taking the nurses training course being a senior nurse at the time of her death. It can be truly said of her that she gave her life in caring for others while at her work in the hospital for the large number of cases of influenza made it necessary for her to work on case after case of the epidemic, night and day until the disease attacked her she had not the power to overcome it because of exhaustion. Truly a noble death and although her parents and relatives are sorely bereaved over her sad death, they can remember her with a just and true pride as a martyr to her work.

Florence Olson was born on a farm south of Stratford September 27, 1893 and died October 25, 1918, being twenty-five years and 28 days old. She grew to young womanhood, spending practically all of her life here until she went to take the nurses course at the Boone hospital. She was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William E. (Louisa Borg) Olson of Des Moines but until a few years ago residents near this place. Beside her heartbroken parents, she leaves to mourn her early passing, two sisters, Mrs. John Leaf of Stratford and Miss Anna Olson, who is also taking the nurses course at the Boone hospital. A number of other relatives also mourn the passing of this young lady beside a host of friends.

All of the bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of their many Stratford friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Sental of Boone, and the remains laid to rest in the South Marion Cemetery.
