Stratford Courier
September 6, 1917

Ellen Virginia Okerstrom was born in what was known as Swede Bend, southwest of Stratford, August 5, 1869. She was the youngest of five children born to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Okerstrom all of whom have gone to their reward except Peter Okerstrom of San Antonio, New Mexico. Her mother died when the deceased was about a year old and her father passed away during the winter of 1900.

Early in her life she became a member of the Methodist church and has ever since been identified with that denomination. She was united in marriage to F.A. Nordblom September 21, 1899, who with a foster-daughter, Mrs. Clarence Anderson of near Stratford, a daughter, Chrystelle and a large number of friends are left to mourn her death.

Nearly all of her life was spent in and near Stratford, but in the fall of 1912, her health failing, the family moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. They spent the winter there coming back to Stratford early in 1913. Her health was such that she could not live in this climate so they again moved to Las Cruces in the fall of 1913 and there the deceased passed to her reward on Monday, August 27, 1917 at 5:40 p.m. She was 48 years and 22 days old.

Never very strong in 1912 she was afflicted with the dread tuberculosis. From that time until her death she fought for her life and at times she seemed stronger and some hopes were held out for her, but last April she grew worse and was compelled to keep to her bed from which she never again rose. She made a long fight and she did it uncomplainingly. At all times she was patient and kind and she met death smilingly and without regret.

The funeral over the remains was held from the M.E. church here Sunday forenoon with Rev. H.I. Pharo in charge and the remains were laid to rest in the South Marion Cemetery.
