LEONARD L. MONSON

Funeral services for Leonard Monson were held at the Hanson Funeral home, Stratford, Monday, September 10, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lawrence S. Anderson officiating. Two hymns were sung by Mrs. Arthur Larson and Mrs. E.J. Johnson.

Pallbearers were Leo Neese, Chris Albas, Homer Mellgren, Emanuel Lindquist, D.L. Nuckols and John Douty. Burial was in the South Marion cemetery.

Leonard Lewis Monson, son of Charles O. and Emma [Jonasdotter] Monson, was born on a farm south of Stanhope, June 7, 1879, and died September 7, 1956, at the Boone County hospital at the age of 77 years and 3 months. He had been ill for the past two years.

He was united in marriage to Esther A. Swanson, May 7, 1902, at Primghar, Ia., and to this union one son and three daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Mr. Monson was baptized into the Lutheran faith.

He had lived in the Stanhope and Stratford communities most of his life as a farmer, and also operated a general merchandise store in Stratford for some time.

Survivors include his wife, Esther; three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Ethel) Mellgren of Des Moines, Mrs. Lester (Vernice) Wills of Boone, and Mrs. Charles (Goldie) Clabaugh of Stanhope; a son, LuVerne Leonard Monson of Duncombe, Ia., eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, seven nephews and two nieces, also a number of other relatives and friends.
