OBITUARY

Emma Charlotta Monson was born in Vemmely Kalmarslan, Sweden on August 16th, 1839 and died on Christmas day 1919, at the ripe old age of 80 years 4 months and 9 days, passing away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Olson of Kearney, Nebraska. She had been ill for a considerable length of time and most of the time has been bedfast, so that death came as a welcome release from her sufferings.

With her husband and one son, John, she came to this country in 1886, locating in the Swede Bend community. She was a resident there for more than fifty years, living here during the early days of trials and privations when but very few homes dotted the wild Iowa prairies of this section. She was well known and beloved by all who knew her. Mrs. Monson lived in Stanhope for twenty-one years, two years ago she went to live with her daughter.

She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter. Mrs. Chas Olson of Kearney. Neb., three sons, John, Sam and Leonard, all of Stratford, Iowa, ten grand children and three great grand children, and many friends and acquaintances. Her husband passed away several years ago.

The remains were shipped to Stratford arriving there Saturday, and funeral services were conducted from the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion Cemetery.
