C.O. Munson Hangs Himself in the Barn

This community was shocked by the news that C.O. Munson had committed suicide on Saturday morning. Mr. Munson got up as usual and did up his chores and then went across the road to the farm where his son, Samuel, lives, and fed his pigs. Sometime, probably an hour afterward Mrs. Munson went to the same place to feed some chickens when she went to the barn and discovered him hanging. She gave the alarm and the neighbors soon gathered but he was dead as it is supposed that he had been hanging about an hour when he was discovered.

The coroner was notified and reached the place about 2 p.m. in company with sheriff Corbin. The body was cut down and taken to the home where the inquest was held. C.O. Munson was born in Sweden in 1829 and leaves a wife, a daughter and three sons. The funeral, which was one of the largest ever held known in this neighborhood was Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to away in the Olson Cemetery. Mr. Munson and wife came to this country in an early day and first resided in Clear Lake Township but about 15 years ago purchased the farm on which the family now resides in Marion Township.

[his children spell the last name 'Monson', married Emma Charlotta Jonasdotter]
