Mrs. E.H. Metcalf

Funeral services for Mrs. E.H. Metcalf of Reeder, North Dakota, were held in the Lutheran church here Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock following a brief service for relatives in the home of deceased's sisters, Misses Hilma and Nora Lindquist. The services were in charge of the Rev. Anton Chell who used for his text Romans 5:3-5. At the home service Mrs. Chell sang "Face to Face." At the church service a quartet composed of Mrs. Hilder Anderson, Mrs. Gust Berglund, Gust and Alfred Erickson, sang "Saved, Saved Each Earthly Joy" and "We Shall Sleep But Not Forever," and Mrs. Berglund sang a solo entitled "Death Only a Dream." Following the services the remains were taken to the South Marion Cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were cousins of the deceased and were Carl and Immanuel Lindquist, Rudolph and Henry Gustafson, Rueben and Arnold Sealine.

Mrs. Metcalf, a former and well known resident of this community, died very suddenly of heart trouble in her home at Reeder, North Dakota, March 29. For some years she had not been in good health, being a sufferer with asthma and hay fever and three years ago she was ill with pernicious anemia. She seemed to recover, however and at the time of her death seemed in fairly good health.

Minnie Elvira was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Lindquist, pioneer residents of this county, now deceased, and she was born on a farm east of Stratford June 12, 1884. She lived there with her parents until her marriage to E.H. Metcalf on March 22, 1905. For two years they lived on a farm east of Stratford and then moved to Reeder where they took up a homestead and have since made their home. At her death she was 50 years, 9 months, 17 days old.

She is survived by her husband, four sisters and one brother. They are: Misses Hilma and Nora Lindquist and Mrs. Freida Olson of this place, Mrs. Matilda Iverson and Fred Lindquist of Stanhope. Her parents, two brothers and one sister have preceded her in death.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Stratford Lutheran Church of which she was a faithful member for many years and for several years served as organist for the local congregation. Some time ago she transferred her membership to the Norwegian Lutheran Church at Whetstone Buttes, North Dakota, and had served as choir leader and organist in that congregation from the time of its organization.

Mrs. Metcalf was a hard worker in the churches to which she belonged and was always willing to use her talents and means in this work wherever she lived. She had a great many friends here and at Reeder who mourn her death sincerely.

Card of Thanks

We desire to express our sincerest thanks to the many friends who in so many ways so willingly assisted us during the last sad rites of our wife and sister. E.H. Metcalf and the Lindquists.
