OBITUARY
Lundquist

After a long and lingering illness which covered many weeks, Jonas Lundquist passed away last Thursday evening, May 31, 1923, at the age of 71 years, 8 months, 16 days. The immediate cause of his death was heart trouble.

Deceased was born September 15, 1851, in Ovanåker, Gävleborgs län, Sweden. He came to America twenty years later coming almost directly to this locality and on October 24, 1871, was united in marriage to Johanna Carlstrom [Kallstrom] at Webster City. Shortly after their marriage they moved onto their farm in Clear Lake township where they lived until twelve years ago last March when they moved into Stratford and here Mrs. Lundquist passed away five years ago. Eight children were born to them, all of whom are still living and all of whom were present at their father's bedside at his death. They are: Mrs. Mathilda Thompson and Mrs. Minnie Carlson, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Skagerberg of Blue Earth, Minn.; Mrs. Selma Textrum of Ames, Godfrey, Theodore and Victor Lundquist and Miss Hulda Lundquist, all of this place. Seventeen grand children, three great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors also mourn the passing of this man.

Jonas Lundquist was one of those stalwart, strictly honest and upright men whom it is a real pleasure to know. Always a man of unusual vitality he bore his suffering during this last illness with a wonderful courage and it was this vitality that kept the spark of life within him day after day when it seemed that he could live no longer. At all times and under all circumstances he walked the well beaten path of righteousness and when he was fully conscious that he was nearing the end, he appeared to be fully impressed with the idea that at the end of time eternity began, and that the bright faith which sustained him during those trying hours of suffering would only grow brighter as he journeyed toward the infinite and the final gloom of death be dispelled by the radiance of God's love. Could all live the just and upright life Jonas Lundquist had lived, and die in his trusting faith, death could no longer be called the "King of Terrors" for he inspired no terror there. The dying man and sorrowing children looked forward with the same eye of faith to a brighter future where this temporary separation would end in an eternal reunion.

Funeral services were held Sunday with a short private service at the family residence and a service in the Lutheran church of which deceased had been a member for over thirty years. Interment was made in the South Marion cemetery.

Card of Thanks

We wish to return our heartfelt thanks to the many generous friends who stood by us with such unwearying kindness during the time which our father, Jonas Lundquist was sick before his death. Also to the singers and to those who gave the beautiful flowers. THE CHILDREN.
