SWEDE BEND

Perhaps it would be news to many readers of the Review to know that Mrs. Peter Lawrence is dead. She was 82 years old, and since her husband's death some 10 or 12 years ago, she has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Olof Ferlen. She and her husband were of the first settlers in the Bend. Mr. Lawrence used to be the miller for the pioneer settlers. That is, he used a couple of flat stones which he had smoothed off sufficiently to grind or rather crack the corn. This was some thirty years ago. There are yet some half a dozen of those old pioneers yet alive, and it is with a feeling of awe that we look upon the dear old gray heads, who have labored so long and hard, to make smooth the paths of their children.

Sara Andersdotter was born August 12, 1798 in Ulrika, Östergötland, Sweden, the daughter of Anders Jacobsson and Maja Petersdotter. She had an older brother, Jacob Andersson. Her father died in 1800 in Ulrika parish.

She married Peter Larsson on November 12, 1820 in Ulrika, Östergötland, Sweden. They resided at Åbo in Ulrika parish. Seven children were born to them:

Oct. 10, 1840 - Dec. 15, 1934

In 1846 their son Anders moved to Kisa parish. In 1849, Peter, Sarah, Brita Helena and Maria Christina emigrated to America. Their first residence was in Section 35, Hardin Township, Webster County.
