MISS JOHNSON DIES AT 87

Miss Tillie Johnson, 87, longtime resident of the Stanhope community died at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hillcrest Nursing Home where she had been a patient the past eight years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist church in Stanhope with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating and with burial in South Marion Cemetery near Stratford.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Sunday when it will be taken to the church.

Matilda Johnson, daughter of John and Hannah [Olsdotter] Johnson, was born July 3, 1875, on a farm southwest of Stanhope. She was educated in the Stanhope schools and had always made her home in the Stanhope community.

She is survived by one brother, Fred Johnson of Stanhope; one nephew, Arthur Gustafson of Jewell, and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters, who died in infancy; by two other sisters, Mrs. Anna Gustafson and Miss Ella Johnson, and one brother Charley Johnson.

Miss Johnson was a member of the Methodist church at Stanhope and was active in the Ladies Aid Society as long as her health permitted.
