Carl August Johnson was born in Oshorfva Horn Socken, Sweden, October 30, 1832 and died at his home near Stratford, May 19, 1908 at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 20 days.

He was married in Sweden to Johanna Sophia Gustafson, April, 1857 and migrated with his wife to America the same year locating at Moline, Ills. Ten years later in 1867 he came to Iowa, locating in Hamilton county where he has since lived.

To the marriage eight children were born, six daughters and two sons. Four daughters and one son having preceded him in death. The son, Harris, died in Colorado Springs, Colo., Feb. 29, 1908. Left to mourn him are his wife, two daughters and one son - Mrs. C.A. Ristrim, Miss Lou Johnson and Leonard Johnson, all of near Stratford.

Deceased was one of the earlier settlers of this county and state, being one of the hardy pioneers who came here when this was all wild prairie land and who has fought with hardships to make this country what it is today.

He was a man of kindest disposition, a good father and husband and a man of whom it may well be said that to know him was to admire him for his many good qualities. Peace to his ashes.

The funeral services took place Friday from the home and were conducted by Rev. Kron, of the Dayton Lutheran church. Interment took place in the South Marion cemetery and to this lasting resting place many of his friends followed the remains.

Card of Thanks.
We extend to all, who so kindly assisted us with kind words and deeds during the illness and death of our husband and father, our deepest thanks. May God bless you.
Mrs. C.A. Johnson and children.
