Lawrence "Shorty" Ray Hansen, 75 of Webster City, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Southfield Wellness Community Assisted Living in Webster City.

A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Peter Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Lawrence Hansen Memorial Fund.

Lawrence was born August 24, 1941, the son of Elmer Martin and Garnet Olive (Pierce) Hansen in Clear Lake. He married May Lois Holmes in 1965 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Lawrence grew up and attended school in Swaledale. He worked for the Clear Lake School District as well as Cerro Gordo County.

Lawrence was a handyman who was always working outside and liked wood working. He enjoyed riding horses, going to Branson, listening to country music, and dancing at the Surf Ballroom. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a fun loving man who was always telling jokes and playing pranks on people.

Lawrence is survived by three children, Lorna Smith of Rochester, MN, Daniel (Gail) Hansen of Rochester and Sarah (Bill) Spellmeyer of Webster City; twelve grandchildren, Devin, Hayden, Sarah and Nicholas Smith, Nathan, Rachel and Luke Hansen, Tanner, Tyler and Jordan Moen, Lincoln Spellmeyer and Cameron Moen; a great-granddaughter, Brilee Moen; five siblings, Janyce (Ron) Ingle of Iowa Falls, Martin (Fanny) Hansen of Clear Lake, Alan (Janet) Hansen of Seymour, IA, Rita (Jack) Follmuth of Mason City and Garnet Roney of Mason City; and 20 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
