Ruth Struchen, 93, of Webster City, died Monday, September 19, 2016 at her home under hospice care, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. A private family graveside will be held at a later date.

Ruth Arlene Secrist was born on August 23, 1923 in New Hampton, the daughter of John Earl and Ardelia Berry Secrist. She graduated from Viola High School in 1941. She married Norman Louis Struchen on July 27, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. Ruth was a switchboard operator in Marion. The couple lived in Adel before moving to Webster City. She was the bookkeeper at Home Appliance from 1958 until her retirement in 2014.

Ruth is survived by her children, Steve (Mary) Struchen of Webster City, Ann (Rick) Gerber of Branson West, MO, Jean (Tom) Nicklasson of Webster City; grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Struchen of Webster City, Christopher (Teresa) Struchen of Ogden, Andrew (Sarah) Struchen of Iowa City, Jayme (Kiel) Neumann of San Bruno, CA; Lea (Luke) Ahrens of Ames; great-grandchildren, Landon Struchen, Carson Struchen, Trista Simpson, Scott Simpson, Jada Neumann, Mavryk Ahrens and Gage Ahrens; sister-in-law, Helen Secrist of Anamosa; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; brothers, Harold Secrist, Cecil Secrist, Paul Secrist, Art Secrist, Walter Secrist; sisters, Mae Eaton, Mary Breitbach and Eva Feigh.

Ruth was a member of the Water Street Birthday Club. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden, sewing, quilting, knitting, watching football and basketball, reading novels, baking and trying new recipes.
