Clayton Garland Fardal, 94,, passed away peacefully in his home in West Des Moines on July 11, 2016. Clayton was born December 23, 1921 on a farm south of Stanhope, Iowa to Elmer and Effie (Dyvig) Fardal. He attended grade schools at Lake Center and Madson country schools and was graduated from high school at Stanhope. He lived on the same Century farm until retirement in 1994 all but 6 weeks when he went to Des Moines to learn how to repair airplanes. He registered for the draft in 1942 but was deferred to farming because of bad eye sight, but he saw more than most, even with glasses.

He met Alice Bergling on the roller rink in Boone and they were married in 1948. They were blessed with 3 children; Saralyn Alderman, Randolph Fardal and Terri (Jack) Finley; one granddaughter; Brianne (Jason) Braun and one great-granddaughter; Gianna Braun.

In 1994, he and Alice moves to Ames, Iowa to enjoy their retirements and moved again to the Lodge of Ashworth in West Des Moines in 2013. He enjoyed bowling, reading, playing games, visiting and traveling. Some highlights were a trip to Scandinavia, several cruises and trips to Europe. He enjoyed people and never met anyone he didn't like.

He attended church at St. Paul's Lutheran in rural Jewell, Iowa where he was baptized and confirmed. Later he attended Bethesda Lutheran in Ames and Valley Evangelical Free Church in West Des Moines. He served on many Boards of Directors including Coop elevator, church, telephone and Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, 3 children, grandchild and great-grandchild; sister, Cleeta Schrimper of Annandale, VA, brother, Matthew (Marlene) Fardal of Des Moines, IA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Enid and brother Dean.

Family will greet friends on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 2-4 pm at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at Valley Evangelical Free Church in West Des Moines on Monday July 18, 2016 beginning at 11 am. Interment will be held at 3:30 pm, Monday July 18, 2016 at Lake Center Cemetery south of Stanhope, Iowa.
