On December 26, 2018 Emma went home to be with our Lord after a month long stay in the hospital and then a nursing home in Apache Junction. She was born on September 15, 1933 in Hamilton County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles Staples and Mabel Clair Staples.

She was preceded in death by her husband Guy Leo Kerns and she is survived by her son, Larry Kerns and daughter, Sharon Waters who both live in the state of Washington.

A simple memorial celebration will be held in Seattle. The date has not been determined yet.

Anyone who would like to remember Emma in a special way may make a donation to your local hospice. Emma was given excellent care at the end of her life by the kind and caring hospice nurses in Apache Junction, Arizona.
