Viola Mae Hope, 83, Webster City, died Monday, March 1, 1999 at Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ, with Rev. Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service Thursday at the church.

Viola Mae Powell, daughter of Alonzo and Icy Skonson Powell, was born on Dec. 18, 1915 on a farm near Stratford. She received her education at the Homer School. On Sept. 27, 1933 she married Norman Ober. He died in November of 1953. She married Boyd Hope at Boone on Oct. 17, 1958. She had been employed at Selby Produce, Fairmont Produce, Morton Frozen Foods and Ross' Tavern, all in Webster City. Following her retirement in the early 80s, she worked parttime house cleaning for several years. Mr. Hope died Oct. 15, 1991.

Survivors are her daughter, Arlene Spangler, Webster City, son-in-law, Wayne Totten of Cambridge, MA, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sisters Avis Keenan of Des Moines, Verval Teufel of Chicago and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Totten in 1991, brothers Lerenzle, Floyd, Earl, Eldon and Raymond Powell, sisters Genevieve Batterton, Beulah Lawler and Betty Powell.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, church circles, Royal Neighbors and American Legion Auxiliary.
