Willard (Bill) Day, 75, Webster City, died Monday evening at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, where he had been a patient for three days and in ill health the past six months.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Nelson officiating and with burial in Graceland Cemetery.

Willard Edgar Day, son of George and Margaret Taylor Day, was born Oct. 15, 1909 [headstone says 1908] at Ripley, Minn. He was educated at Owatonna, Minn.

He was married July 5, 1947 [they were married in 1927], to Elva Rothrock at Owatonna and the couple resided in Webster City, later moving to Claremont, Minn., where they farmed. They returned to Webster City in 1938 and he was employed as a truck driver for Hans Oppedal.

From 1944 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army in the European theatre. He returned to Webster City and was employed for many years as a truck driver for the Morton Frozen Food Company. He was employed in construction work with Maudlin Construction, retiring in 1972. The couple had since continued to live in Webster City.

He is survived by his wife, six daughters and one son, Mrs. Tom (Arlene) Davis of Coon Rapids, Minn., Mrs. Robert (Lois) Philbrook, Kamrar, Donna Day, West Des Moines, Mrs. Shirley Ellison, Urbandale, Mrs. Gary (Sandra) Van Winkle, West Des Moines, Mrs. Joe (Doris) Bonstetter, Webster City and Robert Day of Fort Dodge. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one brother, Ethan Day of Clarion.

He was preceded in death by one son, a daughter, his parents and three sisters.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Webster City, the Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post 191.
