Obituary

Pioneer Settler Called Home.

Sunday morning at 7:55 o'clock, Carl Felleson, one of the highly respected pioneer settlers of this community, was called to his reward. For the past four years he has gradually been failing and during the past two weeks his death was momentarily expected, his death being due to the infirmities of old age. But in spite of this his passing away was keenly felt by his many friends for he was one of those grand old men who won a warm place in the hearts of whoever he met. He was a kind father, a devoted christian, a good neighbor and was held in high respect by a large circle of acquaintances.

Carl Felleson was born in Sjuhult, Norregord, Mistelos, Sweden, October 5, 1829 and passed away at his home in Stratford, August 16, 1914, at the ripe old age of 84 years, 10 months and 11 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Sweden and emigrated to America in 1854, locating at Moline, Ill. In October of the same year he was united in marriage to Brita Jonasdotter, and to this union ten children were born, six of them having preceded him to the better land. In 1870 he came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Stratford, and at the same time joined the Lutheran church here. In 1902 he retired from active work and with his wife moved to Stratford. His wife was called home December 9, 1905.

The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the residence and at the Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. C. A. Callerstrom, and a large concourse of friends gathered to pay their parting tribute to their departed friend. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion cemetery.
