Berggren

The people of this community were more or less shocked Thursday morning, when the announcement was made that S.J. Berggren had passed away. For many years he had been a sufferer from asthma, but until a few weeks ago he was able to be about. That his condition would prove fatal was generally known, yet his sudden passing away was keenly felt by his many friends.

Sven Johan Berggren was born in Hjortsberga Socken, Kronobergs Län, Småland, Sweden, August 23, 1842 and passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 2, 1909, at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 9 days. He came to America in 1868 and was united in marriage to Johanna Matilda Johanson in 1869. He was a faithful and devoted member of the Swedish Lutheran church of Stratford, having been a member ever since coming to Stratford. He took an active part in the church and Sunday school, having served as superintendent and deacon for many years.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Saturday forenoon at 11 o'clock, Rev. A.R. Kron of Dayton, conducting the services are paying a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. Many friends and members of the church were present to pay their last respects to their faithful co-worker and friend. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion Cemetery.

A loving wife, one sister in Sweden, relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn his departure.
