Jack L. Bateman, 84, Webster City, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999 at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. Mr. Bateman donated his body to the Mayo Anatomy Department and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City with Revs. John Grebner and Doug Bullock-Tiffany officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home.

Jack Leonard Bateman, son of James and Jeanette Erickson Bateman, was born August 1, 1914 at Webster City. He attended Webster City schools and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids in 1936. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Air Force in the Aleutian Islands and Puerto Rico as controller officer. On Feb. 13, 1943, he married Violette Grady Isham at Orlando, FL. The couple resided in Spencer and he worked for Pioneer Field Theaters. They moved to Webster City where he was employed as secretary-treasurer of Zitterall-Mills Construction, retiring in the late 1970s.

Survivors are his wife, Violette, a son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Jean Bateman of Louisville, CO., daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Carl Huerta of Lakewood, CO., grandchildren, Trent Bateman, Jill Haberkorn and Matthew Huerta; five great-grandchildren, sisters, Lucille Breitenkamp, Webster City, Evelyn Richardson of Apple Valley, MN., nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Bateman was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, former secretary-treasurer of Meals on Wheels for 10 years, a former member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion Post #191, and the Webster City Country Club.
