Raymond Schlotfeldt, 64, Webster City businessman, died unexpectedly at the Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999. Funeral services were held Friday at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville, IA with Rev. Peter Boe officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the St. Peter Cemetery, Brunsvile. Funeral arrangements were made by the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Raymond Jacob Schlotfeldt was born Nov. 4, 1934 in Inwood, the son of Raymond and Aldena Lottmann Schlotfeldt. He was raised in the LeMars and Merrill areas, graduating from Le Mars Central High School. Following high school, he attended Westmar College for two years. He then enlisted in the Cadet Program of the United States Air Force and was trained as a navigation officer. After graduation, he flew with the Military Air Transport Services for a few years. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he was a member of the Iowa Air National Guard in Sioux City.

He married Carol Willer on Sept. 5, 1956 in Nevada. He graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and as a Registered Land Surveyor. The couple lived in Sioux City where he was the project engineer. They later moved to Webster City, where Ray was the city Engineer and City Manager. In 1973, he established Schlotfeldt Engineering in Webster City, and later opened offices in Fort Dodge, Sheldon and Le Mars.

He was a member of the Iowa Engineering Society, American Society of Civil Engineers, Iowa Public Works Association, National Society of Professional Engineering and served on the board of directors for the Youth Shelter in Fort Dodge.

Survivors are his wife, Carol; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Lloyd Nizzi of Granger, two sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Paula Schlotfeldt, Minneapolis, MN., and Wayne and Linda Schlotfeldt of Brunsville; seven grandchildren, three sisters, Shirley Volmer of Woodbury, MN., Joyce McKnight of Rapid City, SD., Carol Prichitt, Great Falls, MT., two special brothers, Virgil Borchers, Brunsville and Richard Borchers, Naples, FL; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son David and a sister Luann Schlotfeldt.
